District 9

So I watched District 9. It was a cam version, because I’m not big on paying $15 to go see a movie. Obviously when watching a cam version, there may be some things not right with it – in this case, the aliens speech was translated into Russian.

All-in-all, I think it was a good movie. Would probably have better had I been able to read what the aliens were saying, but whatever. The aliens – if you could call them that – were decent, even though I probably would have gone with something a bit different. At least they weren’t giant gray or green people, lol.

The previews were a bit misleading.. I had the idea there was going to be an intergalactic war of some sorts, but alas, only a few fight scenes (I don’t count the scenes where they pull the aliens out and shoot them at random).

Graphics were good, and the plot, as I said before, was great. Acting might have been a little better I think. I don’t think I knew any of the actors in it… But, yeah. Definitely something you should look for when it comes out on dvd.

Push

So I got Push a couple of days ago. I saw the commercials awhile back and decided I should probably watch it. Turned out to be a pretty decent movie, even if it closely resembled Jumper.

Starts out in a hotel (I’m assuming that’s what it was) with the lead actor as a child and his father. The “Division” (which is the evil corporation that took over the Nazi’s experimental work to produce “gifted warriors”) comes in to take the dad back to their headquarters or whatever, but end up killing him instead. The boy escapes (obviously), and it goes to a scene inside of the divisions headquarters, where they’re using a sort of “enhancement drug”. The drug has killed everyone they’ve used it on thus far, but the one they test it on now lives and escapes.

They send “sniffers” to the lead actors apartment, and then a “watcher” comes and tells him she needs his help, blah blah blah… Fast forward to the next action scene, and there’s “screamers” that end up nearly killing him. The little girl (The watcher) finds him later on, and some lady who owes her mom a debt pays it off by fixing the guy up.

I actually don’t remember all of it, or maybe it’s because I’ve only been up for an hour and I’m still tired as shit. Either way, good movie, download it, rent it, whatever.. It’ll keep you intrigued if you’re into action flicks.

The Descent

Awesome movie – One of the better fright flicks I’ve seen in awhile. Even though it wasn’t a lot of the normal frightening scenes, it’s mostly the anticipation that gets you. They spread the scenes out rather well, which makes it even more frightening when something does happen.

Beginning of the movie starts out with a group of friends witer water rafting. Afterwards, one of them leaves with her husband and daughter. While driving (home I’d assume?) they get into an accident, and the husband and daughter die (although they don’t show the dead kid (*tear*). After that, Sarah (Shauna MacDonald) wakes up in the hospital from her injuries, and freaks out at the loss of her family.

Movie goes on, and the friends are once again together, this time with three more women. They go to what they think is a cave that’s already been discovered, however, Juno (Natalie Mendoza) takes them to an undiscovered cavern system. -I lost my train of thought, because Nikki started a conversation with me, so I’ll finish this up whenever.

Watch the movie though, it’s great.

8/10 for me

Alright, well – I’ve seen all the other ones, so I had to see this one, and it wasn’t a let down, although it didn’t remind me of a few movies I’ve seen with the plot and location.

Five(5) SEAL’s take a recon mission into Columbian territory, where they’re supposed to gather intel and video on a suspected target. Turns out, it’s a meeting with FARC (A Columbia militant group) and the Colombian Army. Everything turns to shit when an unexpected group of soldiers shows up, and starts killing everyone. Firefight ensues, and one of the SEAL’s is killed.

They retreat, only to find more soldiers awaiting their return to their boat. Boat gets hit with a grenade, another SEAL dies. One SEAL captured, two left to save him. The helo pickup is told to leave, leaving them stranded as a few trucks full of soldiers enter the scene. Another firefight, and they escape in a jeep. They learn that Washington wants to handle this diplomatically.

They save the captured SEAL, and go to visit the single remaining victim of the first attack (A Colombian general). Another attack on another compund, to try and retrieve their video equiptment. After that, it takes a twist, and you’ll have to watch it to find out.

7/10 from me.

Acting was good, direction was good and loads of booms and bangs always makes things better.

Resident Evil: Degeneration

Resident Evil: Degeneration was a pretty good movie. I wouldn’t quite say it deserves the 9.1 rating it got on IMDB, but it’s close. This is the new anime version of Resident Evil. I think I preferred the actual actors over anime, but whatever.

Movie starts in an airport. One of the original survivors of Racoon City (Claire) meets up with Rani and Rani’s aunt. About 15 minutes into the movie all hell breaks lose as the senator tries to leave using a public route. His body guards are then attacked by a zombie. More zombies come, flesh feast begins. They’re now trapped inside. Leon comes in to save the people, including the senator and Claire who are still trapped inside the airport. They get out alive, aside from one of the S.R.T. members being killed, and it goes into the informational part of the movie. We learn the WilPharma created a vaccine for the T virus as the trucks pull up loaded with them.

Few minutes go by, trucks blow up – Inside job. Claire and the head research developer go to WilPharma HQ to get something. HQ blows up – new G virus released. S.R.T. members brother exposed and mutates. Attacks and kills a dozen or so military personell. Leon comes in and saves the day. Movie goes to the “inside man”, who’s trying to sell the data and what-not for the T and G virus strains. Watch the movie to find out the rest.

This movie only got a 6/10 from me. It was a good movie, but a bit too drawn out. The script was spoken as if you were in a game, but not the newer ones, more like Resident Evil 1.. Slow and you could tell they were reading a script most of the time. Action was good, and the animation was great. Lots of booms and bangs.

Snakes on a Plane

Alright, so I’ve had this movie for about a year and a half on my HDD, and just watched it tonite. Snakes on a Plane was a pretty good movie. Putting aside the fact that I’m not too fond of snakes, there were a few points in the movie that made me jump, only because for once I wasn’t able to anticipate the scene coming up – Which is definitely a plus.

Movie’s based around a witness to a murder in Hawaii. You see the “bad guy” twice maybe throughout the entire movie. After about 20 minutes, the movie gets moved from Hawaii to an airplane heading to the LAX airport, where the witness will testify against the “bad guy” (I can’t remember his fucking name, sue me).

The flowers have been covered in a pheremones (possibly a misspell), and there’s a timer set to automatically open the door to a crate of venomous snakes. When this happens, all hell breaks loose on the plane. The first snake attack scene is pretty graphic, and lasts about 10 minutes. The captain dies, due to a snake (of course). Mass panic as everyone tries to get away. Cut to witness – Cut back to panic.

They make it to the front room, and barricade themselves in using luggage (yeah, because snakes can’t crawl through any tiny gap…..). More panic, more attacks, more deaths. Side of the plane gets blown out to save them from the snakes. End of the movie’s up to you to watch.

All in all, wasn’t that bad. 6/10

Alien Raiders

I lol’ed during this movie (a lot). So, Alien Raiders is a movie where a rogue group of scientists hunt down aliens that came from a meteorite type stone (it shows a little video about 2/3 the way into the movie). The effects were awesome in the movie, and the acting was good – for the most part. I don’t know what made me not really like this one. It was a bit corny, but I’ll give you an overview of what happened anyways.

Movie starts between two places: Grocery Store and back of a Van. Six(6)? (I’m not reall sure how many scientists start out) go into the grocery store, because they think the “King” alien is there (also revealed later on in the movie). They kill a few people, including a off-duty police officer and take the rest hostage. Their “spotter” gets killed by the cop prior to him being killed. So they’re forced to use a different method of checking. They release the hostages that were cleared by the spotter, and move the rest into the back of the store.

About 30 or 40 minutes into the movie, they start the procedure, which involves the remaining uncleared hostages to drink a half gallon of milk. They sit there for about another 10 minutes before they pull the store manager in first. They cut off one of his appendages and figure out it’s not him. Next please? Anyways, movie goes on, alien shows up, kills a couple of the guys, la-di-da, movie ends with a twist. If you want to know, you’ll have to watch it. I don’t do endings =)

This wasn’t all that good of a movie though. 6/10, because I liked the effects and I love violence.

Diary of the Dead

Alright, for the first official post, the most recent movie I’ve watched.

Diary of the Dead is a mix between Blair Witch and Resident Evil, which turned out to really work. This movie was one of the best zombie flicks I’ve seen in awhile.

It started out with a college film crew doing a shoot for a zombie flick (ironic, eh?). The news starts talking about attacks from people believed to be dead. Movie changes to tenseness between all characters, as they try and figure out what’s going on. Skip about 20 minutes into the movie, and all but two(2) of the original group are on the road in a winnebago, when they run into their first actual zombie, which turns out to be a nicely toasted state trooper.

Skip another 10 or 15 minutes, and they’re in a hospital which is empty (you never actually find out if it was due to everyone leaving or dying). Few more zombies killed, one character bitten and another one dead. Another 15 minutes skipped and we make our way to a city where the “gangsters” (or so it would seem) have taken control. The main character uploads the footage he’s been recording to myspace, argument ensues with his girlfriend -> Zombie attack.

I’m not going to go any further, as you get the gist of it. It was a good movie in my opinion. I downloaded it, but if it weren’t available via torrent, I’d still have to say purchasing it would be worth it.
